BIG CHAIR, GAY FAIR

Watch the video
Rainbow decorations attracted customers to the "Big Chair" photo concession at NYC's Gay Pride Fair. A good "square" time was had by most. However, ghetto fashion (pants half falling off as in prison) and tacky behavior were also in evidence.

West Village T-shirts

Watch the video
They are funny. They are in bad taste. But who would ever wear one in public? This is a poorly photographed episode in my T-shirt series. I love the interplay of slogan and images.

VETERANS FOR PEACE!

Watch the video
Veterans opposed to the war in Iraq are liberated enough to "make a statement against the war" by marching in NYC's Gay Pride Parade on the last Sunday in June. Remember how NYC tried to minimize the first demonstation against the Iraq War by blocking access, etc? Well, embrace the idea that peace and life is more important than whether someone would think you are "queer" and join Veterans For Peace on Sunday, June 25,2006. Go up to the 50's in NYC and ask directions. Leave your sexual orientation worries behind and join others in protesting the carnage being committed in our national name!

AMNESTY INVITES SUPPORTERS TO MARCH IN NYC GAY PRIDE PARADE

Watch the video
An Amnesty intern talked about Amnesty's many projects and how that organization always received a warm reception at gay pride street fairs. As an Amnesty member, I signed petitions at the Queens Pride event. Today I received the following email. If you are liberal, gay or just like being in a parade instead of watching it, please sign up and show up. "Subject: Pride Parade with Amnesty Dear all, I'm writing you because you are currently on my list of people that expressed interest in marching, alongside with the OUTfront program at Amnesty International, in the Manhattan Pride Parade on Sunday, June 25th. We are extremely excited with the amount of interest in the march we have received so far! We also hoped that you could further help us promote the march by encouraging your family, friends, partners, etc. to join us. Also, with enough interest, we are planning on organizing a small social event prior to the march, or a "march pre-game," where we can all enjoy Amnesty-provided pizza and Pepsi, work on our signs together and socialize. We hope to be sending you more details during the next couple of weeks regarding both the "march pre-game" and the march itself. To assist us in doing this it would be great if you could email us with whether or not you still plan on attending the march, if you are interested in attending the pre-party, and how many people you hope to bring with you. Remember that the more marchers we have the more noise we make for human rights! Hope to hear from you soon, Ayesha Ghazi OUTfront Intern Amnesty International USA OutfrontIntern1@aiusa.org

SEXY ! RACIST ! VERY FEY ! (ADULT CONTENT)

Watch the video
Sex and video can sometimes spin out of control. I was probing into the private lives of interesting-looking people loitering about the Queens Pride Street Fair late Sunday afternoon. Suddenly, a racist sexual predator attacked my helper. Despite my mental distress and loss of control, I kept the camera running.

TRANS BEGGAR WITH RAINBOW POODLE (Wicker reporting with attitude)

Watch the video
An old-fashion drag queen from Columbia was" working the crowd" on the outskirts of the Queens annual Gay Pride Fair. Complete with a Mexican servant, a rainbow poodle and an "old" parrot, this spectacular exhibitionist created "unreal theater" on the street. Randy Wicker couldn't resist giving "commentary with attitude" during this report. It's a lot of fun. Randy certainly got his $5 worth videotaping this event.

STRAIGHT COUPLE / GAY FAIR #2 Randy Wicker Reporting

Watch the video
A family that lived in the neighborhood talked about their experiences with neighbors and gays at street fairs.

STRAIGHT PEOPLE / GAY FAIR #1 Randy Wicker Reporting

Watch the video
Gay street fairs are public events. In urban areas, like the Borough of Queens in NYC, you find a mixture of cultures and many immigrant communities.

I decided to try interviewing people, especially people who looked like they just might have 'wandered' in, about "what it was like going to a gay street fair for the first time?"

This is the first of two or three vlogs focusing on this subject.
