On Saturday, October 10th, there's a protest in Congressional Cemetery, 1801 E Street SE (18 blocks from the Capitol) where I am due to be buried. The current "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy is a living nightmare for gays serving in the military. The protest is also a memorial service for a legendary gay American military Hero, Leonard Matlovich. "I've been in the service twelve years, and I'm gay. I have never been in trouble. I have a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and three commendations for performance above & beyond the call of duty. On the Air Force's rating scale of 1 to a top of 9, I have never received less than 9 in my entire enlistment. Now, I want to end the military's prejudice against homosexuality, and I'm willing to fight all the way to the Supreme Court if it's necessary!" He told Dr. Frank Kameny upon agreeing to be the "ideal" test case Kameny & other civil rights activists were seeking. The story of his partial success have served as an inspiration to others carrying on in his place today." This video tells part of that story from my own unique perspective.
