"Cryonics" is a serious matter for some people. They believe you can be frozen when you die and eventually be revived. There is a daily newsletter called 'Cryonet' which keeps those interested informed. Today, someone posted links to a press release picture, video and print article that was truly outrageous. Either it was another crazy "scam" from Russia aimed at cryonicists or it was a publicity stunt for an audio books company. Which do you think it was? It really couldn't be serious. Or could it?

President Bush was about to give the first defining speech of his Presidency about stem cell research. There I was facing down The Catholic League. We debated a few minutes before the speech. Afterwards, we had a ten minute finale. Watching this opening round of that debate, even now just a few years later, is like seeing a flashback to The Scopes Trial. Times haven't changed. The ignorant have only increased their hold on the country.

Being profiled by Jon Steward's "The Daily Show" was one of the few media appearances I briefly considered avoiding.  I had become a well known and serious advocate for human cloning.  But, as this video shows, the Catholic theologians were the real villians. 

They spliced in my answers to different questions for humorous effect.  They edited the Catholic spokesman and made him look totally mad.  It was all a humorous spoof but "The Daily Show" at least understood who was the good guy and who were the fools.
